CHAPELLE DE LA MISERICORDE 17th century
Small penitent’s chapel, consecrated in 1675 and dedicated to the « Miséricorde » and to the « Décollation de St Jean Baptiste », with its organ, made by Valoncini, offered in 1902 by the canonised Antonio Guidi, vicar of Nice in 1886.A Baroque bulbous peaked bell tower overlooks the building.Open on week-end July and August,« les journées du patrimoine » (national heritage days) and upon reservation for a minimum of 10 persons all year.
HELP AND IMPROVEMENT PROJET
The district of Tende boasts an impressive cultural heritage. 13 churches and chapels are scattered around its commune. The chapels belong to the town, who maintains and upkeeps them.
There are two brotherhoods within the district. The Pénitents Blancs Brotherhood who runs two chapels and the Archi Brotherhood of Pénitents Noirs who have taken over the Pénitents Rouges’.
The chapels are to be seen in the historical centre of Tende, near the 15th century collegiate church.
The brotherhoods own the chapels, through a voluntary association, they are responsible for all work, and are therefore, to be encouraged.
