St Dalmas de Tende

At 730m altitude, St Dalmas is located at the crossroad of the road leading to Casterino cross country ski station and the “Vallée des Merveilles”.

St Dalmas de Tende is part of the Tende district. Twice a year St Dalmas hosts villages festivals: paella, stew and polenta.

Striking architectural building, the train station, meant to receive international trains, was built upon Mussolini’s orders, aiming to remind everyone the closeness of the Italian its border.
Amidst the chestnut trees, the village grew due to the many zinc and lead miners and their families (mine closed in 1929).
 


Small shops: bakers, paper shop, convenience store are open along with a post office, a doctor, accommodation, restaurants and schools.

The Notre Dame de la Paix church is mostly open for mass and official ceremonies.
Village festival – last weekend in June.
Polenta night –end November, plus other festivities during the year.
